Balcombe United Reformed Chuch is situated in the heart of Balcombe village, in the road called Bramble Hill. Main services are held weekly on Sundays at 10.30am. There is a Sunday School which meets during services. Visitors are always welcome.

Balcombe village is some five miles north-west of Lindfield, in West Sussex, with a population of around 1750.

Balcombe URC has been linked with Lindfield URC in a joint pastorate since 2001. Balcombe URC was established as the village Congregational Chapel in the 1850's. For 100 years from 1895 to 1995 it met in the former corrugated iron clad and roofed building, which by the 1990's had seen better days. Part of the site was sold to raise money for a new building which was opened in 1996, providing excellent, compact facilities for a village chapel.

Mission Statement

Balcombe URC aims to be a community who:

  • Worship the living God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and acknowledge the risen Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
  • Seek to nourish and deepen their faith through the distinctive reformed tradition of sacrament, preaching, prayer and Bible study, specifically as a member congregation of the United Reformed Church.
  • Offer Christian fellowship and outreach of the Balcombe village community and beyond.
  • Support ecumenical activity within Balcombe village and beyond.

There are two other church groups in the village: the Church of England, who worship in St Mary's Parish Church, and the Roman Catholics, who are linked to Worth Abbey. There is a combined ecumenical study group and also some joint services in the year.

While Balcombe and Lindfield URC's will continue to maintain their own identity and mission, the linking of the two churches in a joint pastorate opens up new possibilities for growth and mutual support.
