A warm welcome to Lindield United Reformed Church
Revd. Charles Martin
Lindfield has a special atmosphere. It’s a village with its own distinctive life and community and you could say the same about our church. We are not typically “United Reformed”. We are made up of people from every Christian background and none. We have a baptistry, so we baptise both believers and the children of believing parents.
Our worship is designed to reach everyone, from tiny children and young families to those of more mature years, so for the majority of the year we have three services each Sunday. One is at 9.30.am, which is informal and led by a Worship Group with contemporary music; the second is at 11.15.am, and provides a traditional act of worship with hymns and is led by the Pastor; the third is at 6.30.pm which varies in form and takes place in the church lounge. At each service preaching the Word is central, because we believe that the Bible not merely contains the Word of God, but is the Word of God, mediated through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Preaching is shared between the Pastor and the Elders.
We have a lively interest in mission both at home and abroad and at the heart of our fellowship is the burning desire to reach out to others with the Christian Faith. It goes without saying that we welcome everyone, just as Jesus did. Some people today think that Christians are exclusive – that they demand folk change their behaviour before they are welcome in God’s family. We prefer to believe that becoming part of God’s family will change their behaviour.
While we believe that life-long marriage between a man and a woman is where God intends us to express our sexuality, if this is not your life-style right now, we want you to know that you are welcome. We seek to live according to God’s standards as the Bible reveals them, but each one of us is a work in progress and we are all sinners who need God’s grace and forgiveness.
